2025 Toyota Camry Used Buying Guide: Hybrid Trims and AWD Compared
Compare 2025 Camry LE, SE, XLE and XSE hybrid configurations, FWD versus AWD, MPG, comfort and used-car checks.
Published September 14, 2026
For 2025, every new Camry became a hybrid. There is no regular four-cylinder or V6 version hiding in another trim. That simplifies the engine decision but makes trim, drivetrain, wheel size and ride quality more important. It also means a shopper comparing a 2025 with a 2024 is comparing generations and powertrain choices, not just age.
Compare the same trim and drivetrain across sellers, then look closely at service history and condition. Low mileage alone does not justify paying more for a Camry with accident repairs, worn tires or missing maintenance records.

What it gives you
Tradeoff
LE FWD
Efficiency and value
The highest EPA rating in the range, smaller wheels and a comfort-oriented setup
Plainer appearance and fewer upscale features
LE AWD
Economy with added low-speed traction
The LE's practical character plus electric rear-wheel assistance
Slight MPG and price penalty; winter tires still matter
SE FWD
Sportier look without luxury pricing
Firmer suspension tuning, sport design and good hybrid economy
Ride is less relaxed than LE and larger tires cost more
SE AWD
Sport appearance and four-season traction
A balanced midrange setup for snow-belt commuters
Added cost and lower economy than LE FWD
XLE FWD
Quiet, comfort-oriented equipment
Upscale materials and available technology with the softer personality
Optioned prices can overlap premium-brand used cars
XSE FWD or AWD
Top sport styling and equipment
The boldest appearance and richer cabin
Largest wheels, firmest ride and the lowest MPG figures in the lineup
Power and fuel-economy comparison
Front-drive models produce 225 combined system horsepower; AWD versions produce 232. The extra output accompanies the rear electric drive rather than turning the Camry into a high-performance sedan. Wheel, tire and trim choices explain much of the economy spread.

Use the EPA label for the exact vehicle and compare with your driving pattern; short cold trips, speed, weather and tires can move real results.
When AWD is worth buying
Camry AWD uses an electric motor to help at the rear when conditions call for it. It can make launches and slippery roads easier, but it does not create SUV ground clearance and it cannot replace suitable tires. A warm-climate highway commuter will usually get more value from FWD. A buyer facing hills, frequent snow or poorly cleared local roads may value AWD enough to accept the price and mileage difference.
Check all four tires for matching size, type and similar wear. Even with electric rear drive, a mixed set of cheap replacement tires is a warning about prior care and can undermine the reason for buying AWD.

What to inspect on a used 2025 Camry
Confirm the original in-service date and the remaining hybrid-system and hybrid-battery warranty rather than counting from the model year.
Check the rear body, trunk floor and panel gaps carefully; ride-share and fleet mileage can arrive with cosmetic or collision history.
Operate both displays, phone integration, cameras, driver-assistance settings, climate control and every steering-wheel control.
From a cold start, listen and watch for warning messages, then verify smooth transition between electric and engine operation.
Inspect the underside and orange high-voltage components visually for damage; leave electrical testing to a qualified technician.
LE ride or SE/XSE appearance?
Drive the LE and an SE over the same rough street. The SE family's suspension and wheel choices make the car feel more immediate, but a shopper with a long commute may prefer the LE's calmer ride and cheaper tires. The XSE looks expensive because it is; price a replacement wheel and tire before treating curb rash as minor.
XLE is the better upper trim for someone who wants a quieter, comfort-first Camry. XSE is for someone who likes the sport appearance enough to accept the compromises. Neither upper trim has a stronger hybrid system than the drivetrain-equivalent lower models.
2025 versus a used 2024 Camry
A 2024 gives shoppers a choice of gasoline four-cylinder, hybrid and V6 power. The 2025 gives every buyer the newer hybrid-focused generation, updated cabin and available electronic AWD. Someone who specifically wants the V6 should shop the older generation intentionally. Someone focused on fuel cost and newer technology may prefer 2025 even at a higher price.
Camry versus Corolla
The Corolla costs less, occupies less space and offers excellent hybrid economy, but the Camry is roomier, stronger and more relaxed for long trips. Compare seating with the driver's position set correctly and load the trunk. A Corolla that fits is the lower-cost answer; a Camry is worth the step when rear passengers and highway use expose the size difference.
The Camry I would start with
LE FWD is the rational default: best published economy, a compliant wheel-and-tire package and no payment for cosmetic hardware. SE FWD is the choice when its design and handling feel genuinely improve the ownership experience. Add AWD because of an actual route and climate, not because a listing calls it safer.
Whichever trim wins, verify history, collision repair, tire quality, recalls and hybrid operation. Camry reputation is a reason to inspect a good one—not a reason to skip the inspection.
