Identify the truck
Enter the VIN, or choose the year, make and model. The VIN fills any useful details the decoder returns.
Truck towing capacity calculator
Enter the VIN or choose a truck, SUV or minivan by year, make and model. We'll show the best published answer available first. Trailer details and exact-label checks are optional next steps—not homework you must finish to get an answer.
The 1981–2027 selector keeps model-year availability separate from rating evidence. The result clearly says whether it is an exact published configuration, an official “up to” model rating, or a vehicle that still needs its label or OEM guide checked. We never reuse a newer model's maximum for an older truck.

How to get a useful answer
Enter the VIN, or choose the year, make and model. The VIN fills any useful details the decoder returns.
Get an exact configuration rating when one matches, or a clearly labeled model maximum when that is the best verified answer.
Enter one loaded trailer weight—or the trailer GVWR if that is all you know—to make a quick comparison.
Installed options and cargo can lower the usable limit. Use the truck and hitch labels for the final check.
What to verify on the truck
Check the door-jamb payload and GVWR label, tire labels, trailering label, window sticker or build record, and the current manufacturer towing guide. Axle ratio; 2WD or 4WD; SRW or DRW; cab, bed and wheelbase; wheels and tires; towing or suspension packages; accessories; snowplow or camper equipment; and later modifications may affect the result.
Towing calculator FAQ
A VIN can help identify the year, make, model and some configuration clues. It does not reliably prove the axle ratio, tow package, exact payload or every installed option, so those details and the individual truck labels still need confirmation.
Engine, transmission, drivetrain, axle ratio, cab, bed, wheelbase, single or dual rear wheels, GVWR packages and required towing equipment can change the rating. Accessories, upfits, passengers and cargo also reduce remaining payload.
A measured loaded trailer weight is the best input. If it is not available, trailer GVWR is a conservative planning input. Dry weight alone leaves out water, fuel, batteries, propane, gear and other cargo.
The manual selector includes reviewed SUV and minivan model years, plus U.S.-market trucks and separately marked chassis-cab routes from 1981 through 2027, including discontinued models only in the years they were sold. A listed truck may still need its label or manufacturer guide when a verified year-specific tow rating is not loaded.
Yes. Current three-quarter-ton, one-ton and F-450 truck nameplates are selectable. Chassis-cab and incomplete 4500-class vehicles require the completed vehicle's final-stage labels and upfit records before a rating can be relied on.
Updated . Choose the matching model year in the calculator. Published model maxima describe specially equipped trucks; the individual truck's labels and equipment determine its rating.
The new base 3.0L EcoBoost replaces the 2.7L. The best-equipped 3.5L EcoBoost remains rated up to 13,500 lb. BlueCruise with Towing has a separate 10,000-lb ceiling (or the truck's lower limit); its required packages still apply.
Official 2027 Ford F-150 sourceThe new guide separates conventional towing (up to 30,000 lb), fifth-wheel (35,000 lb) and gooseneck (40,000 lb). The 40,000-lb F-450 configuration requires the 40K Gooseneck Tow Package 535; it is not a bumper-pull rating.
Official 2027 Ford Super Duty pickups sourceHigh-Capacity Trailer Tow Package 535 permits up to 39,000-lb F-450 and 43,000-lb F-550 GCWR. GCWR includes the completed truck and trailer together. Final-stage labels and upfit records determine the usable limit.
Official 2027 Ford chassis cabs sourcePreliminary maximum towing is 13,700 lb with the 5.7L V8 Double Cab 2WD and NHT package. Maximum payload is 2,340 lb on a different 2.7L setup; the two maxima cannot be combined as one truck's ratings.
Official 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sourceChevrolet announces an 8.3L Duramax and up to 38,000-lb towing. Configuration and hitch charts are still needed before using that preliminary headline for an individual truck.
Official 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD sourceGMC announces up to 23,100-lb towing for 2500 HD and 38,000 lb for 3500 HD. These preliminary model maxima remain separate from conventional-hitch calculator limits.

Official 2027 Nissan Frontier sourceToyota's updated July 28 announcement adds the Trailhunter package. Full specifications are pending, so the calculator does not carry a 2026 limit into a 2027 truck.
Official 2027 Toyota Tundra sourceTesla's current manual lists 7,500 lb towing / 750 lb tongue load for Long Range and Dual Motor AWD, and 11,000 / 1,100 lb for Premium AWD and Cyberbeast. Confirm the exact variant, wheels and vehicle labels; this rolling manual does not establish a year-specific rating for every Cybertruck.
